Vox=Dominum
Tape (12:22)
1994
Vox=Dominum (1994) deconstructs and recombines the vocal melismas of the middle east, the classical instruments of Persia, and the words of the ancient love songs by the Sufi poet Rumi. Vox=Dominum seeks the inner beauty of small fragments of song, and delights in the discovery of a universal sacredness in the human voice. The composition is a reworking of Phillip Bimstein’s “Persian Sketches,” commissioned by the Telluride Institute for Richard Lowenberg’s “Energy – A Love Story,” which was staged at the 1991 Telluride Ideas Festival. It is available on the 1997 Starkland CD, Garland Hirschi’s Cows (ST- 205).
